What’s The Truth About Carbs & Fat Loss?

We have heard a lot about carbohydrates and how they impact our ability to lose fat. Dr. Atkins the pioneer in a low carbohydrate diet advocated no carbs to start and then just a very low amount while you were attempting weight loss. Most of us have come to realize that such a drastic program is likely to be successful only in the short term. And that our body needs carbohydrates for fuel.

But what is the right amount, the right type?

By consuming processed carbs, like cereals, pasta, rice, bagels, muffins, breads (yes even whole grain breads) sodas, juices, candies, and crackers you will continue to struggle to lose body fat (even if you work-out very hard).

To0 Many Carbs Causes Blood Sugar Swings

It’s hard because these types of carbohydrates cause extreme blood sugar swings which in turn causes your insulin production to increase which allows your body to store more fat. Another thing to be wary of when eating too many carbs is that you are creating a vicious cycle  that increases your appetite and cravings.

Gluten and It’s Effects

Make sure you read labels on everything. The labels are designed to show you the products content in a way that gives you the largest item first, e.g., breads and cereals pretend to be “whole grain” but the first ingredient in them is refined flour, or wheat which is a major carbohydrate and will elevate your blood sugar.

A healthier approach to fat loss is to follow these carb guidelines:

1. Reduce the amount of grains in your diet (cereal, pasta, rice, crackers, etc) and eat more healthy grass-fed and/or free-range meats and eggs, wild caught fish, and TONS of vegetables and fruits.  While it is hard for most people to give up breads, cereals, and pastas, just save the grains for a “cheat day” once a week.
2. Get most of your carbs from vegetables, sweet potatoes, and a variety of whole fruits and berries (But NOT fruit juices which are loaded with sugars aka carbs).
3.  You can supplement nutrient dense and fibrous portions of grain… the germ and bran… use rice or oat brans  to add to your yogurt, cottage cheese, salads, soups, etc.  This way you get all of the most beneficial nutritious parts of grains without all of the excess starches and calories.
We recommend that you stay away from wheat germ —  Many people have wheat/gluten intolerances and don’t even realize it.
Also, for best results with grains in general, try to stick only to sprouted grain products if you’re going to eat any grains at all.  The sprouting of grains helps to eliminate some of the “anti-nutrients” in some grains, and also improves digestion of those grains.
4. Replace grains with healthy fats such as nuts, seeds, avocados, nut butters and proteins. Healthy fats and proteins go a long way to satisfying your appetite, controlling proper hormone and blood sugar levels, and helping you to make real progress on fat loss.

A good carb source that is high in fiber as well as tons of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants: Sweet potatoes or yams. Choose the orange varieties instead of the white varieties of sweet potatoes.

The easiest and quickest way to cook a sweet potato is to slice it up into thin slivers and put it into a pan that you can cover with a lid.  Add a touch of butter, virgin coconut oil (beneficial medium chain triglycerides), and about 3-4 Tbsp of water and simmer with a covered lid for about 5 minutes.
When the sweet potatoes are soft, then add a little cinnamon and maybe a touch of the natural sweetener stevia (if you want a little more sweet flavor) and you’re all set with a delicious healthy carb side dish to go with any meat dish.  Add a side salad and you’ve got the perfect lean-body meal plan.

Achieving The Right Mindset

Mindset is a critical component of any worthwhile endeavor. Meeting the challenge of sculpting your body into washboard abs requires determination and commitment.

AbTrainingThere are no magic buttons, there are no short cuts. In order to get 6 pack abs you need to immerse yourself in core exercises and fat loss. When you focus your mind on these two you will achieve the quickest results possible, instead of getting on the hamster wheel one more time.  You know what I mean – concentrated effort the first day, slightly less the next and you skip the third because you have appointments, maybe you check in on the fourth day and the fifth but then it is the weekend … and round and round you go.

You must stay laser focused and committed to your program if you are to achieve the results you want.

If you’re willing to actually do the work required to get ripped abs with the least effort in the shortest time, check out these 5 steps.

1. Fat Loss Eating.

Hiding under a layer of flab are your 6 pack abs. You need to lose the fat. Fitness professionals and coaches know that exercise alone can be a futile experience. Crunches, curls and sit ups while great exercise will not burn off enough fat to allow those abs to show. You need to stop eating the wrong foods like carbohydrates that cause imbalances in your blood sugar levels, your hormones and actually cause cravings for the very things you should not eat.

Free Range chicken and tuna provide the protein levels, which will help build muscle. And fillchicken-Free_range_flock yourself up at mealtime with lots and lots of vegetables. But foods such as pasta, potatoes, rice and bread have got to go. If you just can’t live without bread or some other form of carb, then save them for a “cheat day” and go back to eliminating them for the next week.

Finally you have to be committed to removing desserts, candy, ice cream, smoothies and soda from your diet. Instead eat healthy snacks like unsalted nuts, coconut, fruit & raisins. Make sure you drink plenty of water to help naturally boost your metabolism throughout the day.

It won’t be long until you feel really great eating like this and it won’t be such a challenge to stick to it.

2. Eat smaller meals more often.

If you are like the majority of people you eat 3 meals per day, at a specific time. Pace yourself with smaller meals and healthy snacks up to six a day. You metabolism will increase its fat burning ability significantly. Your body will stop trying to store reserves of fat from all the failed diet attempts that kept you hungry most of the time.

3. Water

Drinking water increases your metabolism and it also flushes out toxins in your system from eating the wrong foods. It supports your filter system the kidneys and liver in this process. Soon you will notice the benefits of the endorphins produced through exercise and increased water intake, your appetite and cravings will become a thing of the past.

4. Intense Interval Exercises

One phenomena noted is that with short bursts of intense fitness exercise paced at intervals is more valuable to your health, fat loss and well-being than normal endurance style cardio workouts and it is ideal for not only developing muscle but also shedding off the pounds too.

It causes a continuous high metabolic rate long after you’ve finished your workout which allows your fat burning abilities to continue.

5. Mindset and a flat stomach

Just consider for a moment how long it took you to create the body you now have – is it reasonable to believe that getting a flat stomach can happen in two weeks, if you work hard enough at it? No it is not. Your body has to adjust to new levels of proteins, carbs, endorphins, metabolic rates and the fuel that is supplying it all. That process takes time.

Lifestyle changes while intimidating at first will slowly have more appeal as you begin to see success, as you see those first few pounds melt, as you begin to feel more energized as you begin to look forward to your workouts. That is when you can think about permanent change.

You must be willing to change your mindset and your habits and then you will see your muscles begin to firm up and become toned and your weight scale number drop. This then becomes positive reinforcement to give you what you need to continue & you’ll find that staying positive and motivated comes naturally as a result.Just make sure you follow a plan that can actually take you to such success, such as Mike Geary’s Truth About Abs.

What Are Metabolic Fat Burners?

It may surprise you to know that 7 specific vegetables will help your body burn abdominal fat. Cruciferous vegetables contain very unique phytonutrients such as indole-3-carbinol (I3C) known for their ability to fight stubborn belly fat. You know the fat I mean – that extra little bit that hangs over your waistband. Or in some case what is referred to as ‘the beer belly’ or ‘the pot’. The Good news is that there is help, you can have tight abs and a flat belly and seven vegetables that are easy to find in any grocery store will help you do it.

Before defining those specific veggies, let me tell you why you need them. Today most of us are aware that the food we eat is loaded with chemicals, and they are in our environment from air pollution (burning coal vapors cause mercury to fall silently into the air we breathe and the water we drink), as well as the more commonly known ones like herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers. Even food stored in plastics, and cosmetics can react with your bodies hormones.

What Happens When We Are Subjected to Toxins?

When these chemicals enter our body, our natural protection system takes over and tries to shield us from damage by wrapping the damaging molecules in fat. Yes, you read that right. Your own body is trying to protect you with FAT!

The general term for these chemicals is xenoestrogens which have an estrogenic effect on your body (known to mimic estrogen and is considered a hormone disruptor). It is true that they can cause hormonal balances in both men and women. Daily exposure cause stimulation within your body to store belly fat, along with many other problems including cancer risks.

How Can Veggies Help?

So back to our cruciferous vegetables, the I3C they contain help your body to fight back against these estrogenic activities that have been disrupting your hormonal balance.

Broccoli is one of the best sources of cruciferous vegetables, along with brussel sprouts, cabbage, bok choy, cauliflower, collard greens and of course the most nutrient dense vegetable we have – Kale.

Now you know why Mom always told you to eat your vegetables. By fighting against these belly fat stimulating xenoestrogens you have one more tool in your arsenal to win the battle against abdominal fat.

Kale Collard-Greens Cauliflower Cabbage BrusselSprouts Broccoli-2 Bok Choy

Combine this with a positive mind set, life style changes that include some exercise and you can say goodbye to belly fat forever

Summary: So now you know! Load up on those cruciferous veggies and smile because you are working to keep the metabolic rate for fat burning steady and continuous. Not only that, but you will be working on reducing the levels of xenoestrogens in your body. Think of new and interesting ways to keep your servings up – one interesting variation is to chop them very finely and sprinkle over the top of your salad. The more you can eat raw the better. A healthier, flatter stomach is just 7 vegetables away.

Your 10 Step Master Plan

Knowing where to start when considering the best way to lose weight is always a dilemma, so it is often quite useful to have some bullet points or as I like to call it ‘a master plan’, to adhere to that will help you to stay focused on your objectives, so here we go and don’t forget, go right ahead and add your own personal bullet points, if you believe they should be on your, ‘best way to lose weight’ master plan:

Watch What You Eat

Salad-vegetables

1: Watch what you eat but don’t become obsessive: Everyone feels uneasy around obsessive people, so please don’t become one by listing everything that passes your lips; this would not be the best way to lose weight more like the best way to lose all your friends and family! Hopefully, you’ll take heed before you start to calculate your average daily dust inhalation rate!

Set Targets

2: Set yourself targets: There is nothing worse that setting off on a journey and not knowing when you’ve arrived!

Get a Partner

3: Working with someone else: It is always easier when you are trying to do something that is difficult with the support of a like minded individual and dieting is no different. Find someone to diet with and you will find that the support you offer one another will be invaluable in reaching your goals. There again, if you haven’t heeded the warning in the first point you may not have any one to work with!

4: Plan to succeed: When I used to spend a lot of my time in management meetings I regularly heard the phrase, ‘plan to succeed, don’t plan to fail’, but never a truer word has been spoken, especially when in it comes to dieting and losing weight. The best way to lose weight is to have a plan of action, daily food allowances and exercise periods must be noted and adhered to, although we don’t want to become obsessive as mentioned in the first point we do need to enforce an element of control without being classified as a ‘looney tune’.

5: Change the way you cook your food: Grill, Boil and Steam your food, fried food is OUT! Fish-Salmon_FishYes, I realize that for some of you this may be like learning to walk, talk and use the toilet again but it needs to be done!

6. Junk food is OUT! OK, we all love one certain item of junk food whether it is deep fried chemically enhanced chicken or nuked 5% meat burgers, but most of it is high in fat and filled with greed inducing chemicals that make you crave more of the same, stay away from it. Trust me, using the excuse ‘they will go out of business if I don’t buy some’, does not wash.

7. Eat more often: Yes you heard me right didn’t see that one coming did you? Eat smaller meals more often and you won’t feel hungry quite as often.

8: Drink water: Stop drinking soda, it is just sugar in liquid form, why do you think wasps and bees love it so much, come to think of it I’m surprised there isn’t a cola flavored honey! Water will also help to flush out the toxins your body stores so it makes good sense to drink more of it anyway.

9: Always eat a breakfast: you should always eat a good breakfast and try to consume the majority of your daily intake of calories earlier in the day rather than later, as your body will have a better chance of burning them off. Don’t eat after 8 pm, you have a much better chance of burning off calories whilst you are awake rather than asleep, plus you will sleep much better with an empty stomach, although that doesn’t seem to hinder my father, whom after a Sunday lunch drifts into an unconscious slumber in his armchair, that can only be best described as resembling the lions of the Serengeti after feeding on a zebra kill!

Running_Man_Kyle_Cassidy10: Exercise: Without a shadow of a doubt, the best way to help you lose weight whilst dieting is to exercise. It needn’t be anything too drastic, a walk round your local park for half an hour or maybe even going for a bike ride; if you can’t get out the house for one reason or another why not try walking up and down your stairs at home whilst listening to your favorite CD, whatever you decide to do, do something, anything..It will help burn calories, and that is your objective.

Losing weight isn’t about starving yourself, or exercising yourself until you’re sick, it is about managing your lifestyle so the calories you consume equal the calories you burn and when an in-balance occurs, you have to up one side of the equation and drop the other until equilibrium is restored. So in conclusion the best way to lose weight is to manage your lifestyle by controlling your diet and exercise levels and once you achieve this balance you will start to lose weight and become healthier.

Lose Weight Review – Caralluma Burn

Today we are going to review one of the hottest diet products around – Caralluma Burn.  This product is made from an extract from a cactus plant grown in India.  It is sold as an appetite suppressant and requires only one pill per day to achieve significant results. This statement is according to their advertisement.

Comments from Users  of Caralluma Burn to Lose Weight

But what do real people have to say about the product?  A post in one of the public health forums by a woman who took the product found her ideal time of the day to take the product was 7 pm.  She lost 40 pounds in 6 months without diet or exercise.  Her only complaint was that the timing for taking the pill was not clear, she had taken it for several days and still found herself hungry and snacking at night.  But when she switched to 7 pm her appetite left and she felt no more hunger pangs and didn’t feel the urge to snack.

How Caralluma Fimbriata could help you lose weight

”    Caralluma Fimbriata is a natural appetite suppressant
”    It improves energy levels
”    It is known to help regulate blood glucose levels

But What is it?
Caralluma Fimbriata is an edible succulent star shaped cactus that is native to India and well known amongst native Indian populations for its appetite suppressant properties, and has been used safely for centuries. It is eaten raw as a vegetable, cooked with spices or preserved in chutneys or pickles. It is also traditionally known in India as a famine food since it reportedly suppresses hunger and appetite – the hunters from tribal villages take it with them as their sole food.

Two Clinical Studies Results
A double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial on Caralluma Fimbriata extract was done on 50 human subjects. This study consisted of 50 obese patients, 25 on the active compound and 25 on placebo. The trial lasted for eight weeks.
Subjects were tested for changes in key indicators of weight-loss, including anthropometry, body fat composition, BMI, net weight and systemic functions.

The following are the key observations made in this trial:
Statistically significant reductions were recorded in all key indicators of weight-loss
Caralluma Fimbriata extract was well tolerated. Caralluma Fimbriata extract showed minimal adverse effects which were gastrointestinal and transient in nature.
Conducted at: Division of Nutrition, St John’s Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore  INDIA

Second Clinical Trial
Caralluma Fimbriata Extract has been tested clinically by Western Geriatric Research Institute, Los Angeles, CA

This study consisted of 26 overweight patients, 19 on active compound, Caralluma Fimbriata Extract, and 7 on placebo, who were followed for four weeks. The conclusions are excellent and the major observations are given below:

  • The substance, Caralluma Fimbriata Extract showed a statistically significant reduction in body weight
  • Caralluma Fimbriata Extract was well tolerated
  • Caralluma Fimbriata Extract has shown long safety record with little, if any, side effects

Three ways Caralluma Fimbriata Works on the Body

  1. Caralluma Fimbriata contains pregnane glycosides which are believed to block the activity of citrate lyase. By blocking this enzyme, Caralluma Fimbriata blocks the formation of fat by the body.
  2. Further, Caralluma Fimbriata also blocks another enzyme called Malonyl Coenzyme A. By blocking this enzyme, fat formation is further blocked and the body is forced to burn its fat reserves. This accelerates the rate of fat loss by the body.
  3. Caralluma is believed to act in another way as well, controlled clinical trials on Caralluma Fimbriata extract clearly demonstrate its ability to suppress appetite. Therefore, Caralluma Fimbriata is believed to have an activity on the appetite control mechanism of the brain.

Patients on Caralluma have clearly shown significant decrease in arm circumference and waist circumference, along with fat loss. Thus, by acting on different levels in the body’s biochemical processes and brain function, Caralluma Fimbriata works as an effective appetite suppressant and potent weight-loss agent.

The term ‘I’m on a diet’ really gets to me. In its very nature it is suggesting that the outcome is only temporary! I’ve noticed that the outcome of the diet is always ‘I want to look good for the wedding’? How about ‘I want to look good, all the time!’

‘Dieting’ is over rated anyway! Now i am going to be real with you. How many calories can you possibly restrict from your diet? 100/day? 200/day? How many calories can you possibly burn in a workout? Same again? Well let’s do the math. . 200 calories per day through diet restriction and 200/day training equals 400 calories. Multiply that by 7(days in the week) thats 2800 calories. Now if we convert that into fat mass it equates to 310 grams of fat, a little over half a pound. Now that is not considering the fact that your metabolism will slow due to caloric restriction through the week. I know it sounds harsh but if you want to lose FAT long term you have to adopt the lifestyle and you are in it for the long haul. There are no quick fixes, no fast diets! This does not mean you have to be hungry for the rest of your life, oh no, but it does mean you will have to CHANGE.

Everyone really needs to shift their mindset on this one! Here are 4 tips to make sure your weight loss goals are attainable!

1. Write it down.

When I say write it down I mean be specific. That does not mean ‘I want to lose 10lbs’ I know this is a quantifiable measurement but we want something that means something to you! It means:

Lose 4" on my waist Feel better, Drop a dress size Be able to do 10 push ups/chin ups

These are ‘performance goals’ they can be assessed and progress can be noted. That’s what we want. There is too much disappointment out there, after a week SOLID or training and living a ‘performance lifestyle’ there is no change on the scales. But there may be a body composition shift. Something may fit better, you may FEEL better. Still a positive result!

2. Be un-realistic.

If you are realistic you will probably get there but once you get there what then? Get fat again? I don’t think so! Set unrealistic goals and who knows. . you may attain them some day! But for now you will be constantly striving to achieve them!

3. Make yourself accountable.

Tell people about your imminent transformation! Spread the word! The more you tell the better! It’s very hard to NOT do something when everyone knows! But remember tell positive people. If you tell negative people, also known as ‘saboteurs’, they will try with all their might to bring you down out of jealousy! They do not possess the perseverance to stick to the plan that you are on! Don’t let them take you down along with them!

4. Make a wager.

That’s right! Make a bet with someone, prove them wrong! ‘I bet you I can lose 28 pounds in the next 12 weeks’ place a value on the bet and take it from there! It doesn’t have to be cash it can be anything. But the fact you have money on the line as well as your pride you MUST complete the challenge!

If you follow the above quick tips you are well on your way! Notice that there is not a mention of carbs or fat or Atkins or anything. Just YOU!

You are to blame and you are the only one that can fix it!

Be Aware of the Dangers When You Lose Weight Fast

Studies have shown that losing weight too fast is neither effective or healthy. It is far better to go slower, eating healthy – getting the correct amount of nutrients with each meal. Being willing to take your time can save you grief later with the many serious health problems that develop with rapid weight loss.

Crashing Your Metabolism

While it is true that your metabolism can impact your weight loss it is also true that if you cut your calories drastically, you can actually impede your metabolism from doing its job. The results can be long lasting and detrimental to your overall health. Wikipedia defines Metabolism as: (from Greek: metabole, “change” or Greek: metabolismos, “out throw”) is the set of life-sustaining chemical transformations within the cells of living organisms.

Current medical information shows that many different hormones are involved in your metabolism including thryoid, leptin and insulin. When you suddenly cut calories, your body’s defense mechanism kicks in because it believes it is being starved. To protect itself, the body slows your metabolism, so less energy is required to keep your body working effectively. The healthy way to dieting is to slowly cut calories and increase your exercise, this combination insures that your body is receiving enough “food” to keep the metabolism working efficiently.

Taking Unhealthy Supplements

Let’s face it the only ones winning in the “lose weight industry” are the advertising companies, the pharmaceutical companies and the fitness clubs. Too many of the weight loss supplements on the market promise fast weight loss with no special diet or exercise required. If you do lose weight initially much of the quick weight loss you will see is just water weight. These pills often contain stimulants. We have learned from “Ephedra & FenFen” that taking too much of these stimulants can be dangerous for your heart, especially when combined with doses of caffeine.

Developing Flab

Remember when you are losing weight you are not just eliminating fat – well actually you are if you are doing it too quickly. But done correctly with proper nutrition and exercise you will also eliminate the extra skin that surrounded all that fat. Fast weight loss can cause your skin to sag and after the fat is gone it can be very difficult to get the skin to tighten up. By choosing to lose weight slowly, your skin’s elasticity will have a chance to reduce sagging plus you can work on adding some toning exercises into your routine that will further reduce the problem.

Regaining the Weight

Over and over you hear of it! People lose all kinds of weight quickly, only to regain it all back and then some. Simply put the average person can not starve themselves forever, eventually they give in and eat something they consider ‘forbidden’ and then the guilt kicks in and emotional eating starts. The spiral begins. We go back to our own ways. With the unhealthy eating to begin with our metabolism has probably slowed way down, so, we actually end up gaining the weight back faster.

You need to make life style changes that you can live with, eating habits that support your naturally and becoming more active. That is the success program for weight loss..

Moving Towards Eating Disorders

If you become desperate for fast weight loss, you’re more likely to try some dangerous routes to achieve this goal, such as starving yourself, purging after meals, or using laxatives or other products to help you eliminate the food you do eat. While you may lose weight, you’ll also be jeopardizing your healthy and paving the way for the development of a full-blown eating disorder down the road.

So What is Gluten?

According to Wikipedia: “Gluten (from Latin gluten, “glue”) is a protein composite found in foods processed from wheat and related grain species, including barley and rye. Gluten gives elasticity to dough, helping it rise and keep its shape and often gives the final product a chewy texture. Gluten is used in cosmetics, hair products, and other dermatological preparations.”

That last part sounds yummy! NOT – cosmetics, hair products and other dermatological preparations – you want me to eat What?

large.gluten.foodsIf you are gluten challenged with gluten digestion trouble, you know how hard it is to find some of your favorites foods like wheat free pizza and wheat free desserts or gluten free donuts! If you do a search on the internet for “wheat free foods” you will find over seven million different websites that include that search term.

Remember though Wheat Free isn’t enough, because it is in all grains so it is better to search for Gluten Free.  Why is it that it appears that all of a sudden the American public has become gluten intolerant? You see it often today within our families. One of the biggest reasons is in the mean of the word gluten – glue, that and its ability to make breads rise, giving it a chewy texture. Because of this food processors have found it cheaper to add gluten to many products that you would never think would have gluten (like packaged meats). It provides bigger profits!

One and a half million results are displayed if you search for “gluten free restaurants”. Fortunately some restaurants have the thing many miss most about not being able to digest wheat and gluten…PIZZA!  Some health food stores have little dining areas where they cook anything from the store up for you and either serve it to you or package it already cooked “to go”. And thankfully now more and more regular grocery stores, organic food stores and eateries supply gluten free foods.

There are also many gluten free pizza mix products that you can buy in health food stores or some large supermarkets that have health food sections. In some of these stores you can buy frozen wheat free pizza crusts, take them home and add your favorite toppings along with dairy free cheese and eat till your hearts content.

What To Avoid in Your Diet

Are you sick of the side effects of prescription drugs given to you for your high blood pressure? Well listen up, there are natural remedies for high blood pressure, silent killer, that it is, that do not have the awful side effects that prescription drugs do.

One word of caution however, if you are on medications prescribed by your doctor do not abruptly stop them and opt for natural remedies as this could be life-threatening. I suggest you consult with your doctor and tell him/her that you are considering changing to using natural remedies for your condition and come to an agreement of how to handle the switch together.

When cells are destroyed naturally, it is called apoptosis. In this case, new cell formation is not hampered and are stronger and healthier. Thus it has beneficial effect. The reverse is when cells are being destroyed. This is called necrosis. There are many reasons for necrosis tissue. One of them is induced by drugs/medicines.

When cell has its natural death, it passes a chemical signal for the white blood cells to respond and scavenge. But such chemical signal is extinguished in case the cell is destroyed by other means. You know the fatality? The dead tissues and debris are accumulated and necrosis tissue is formed. The fatality is nothing but heart attack.

Your diet is critical in helping you to manage this condition so here are some foods that you should include to help; Berries are excellent, especially Blueberries, which have antioxidant properties. You should consume bananas, green leafy vegetables and beans for protein. OrangeJuiceCeleryGroupBananasLimit your salt intake and use sea salt instead of regular oxidized salt.

Get the whole story about high blood pressure or hypertension and the natural remedies available to treat it so you can live your life without those awful side effects you are suffering right now.

Mis-Information About Fat Burning http://www.loseweightreview.com/mis-information-about-fat-burning/ http://www.loseweightreview.com/mis-information-about-fat-burning/#respond Fri, 25 Jun 2010 21:04:43 +0000 http://www.loseweightreview.com/?p=368 Long duration, lower intensity aerobics calls upon your stored body fat for energy during the sessions. While this may sound good, this can actually cause your body to create more body fat in reserve after the workout is over to have ready for your next workout. Yikes!

Ask ten people what type of exercise they should be doing to burn fat and fire up their metabolism and they’ll all probably tell you the same thing.  They’ll tell you that you need to do 30-40 minutes of moderately-paced aerobic exercise on a treadmill, elliptical machine, stair climber, etc. for 3-5 times per week.

They’ll probably also tell you that more is better…4 times per week would be better than 3, and 5 times per week would be even better.

People will tell you this because that’s been and continues to be the mainstream recommendation for fat burning by many fitness professionals.  Get in a certain target heart rate and stay at that heart rate for 30 minutes or so, several times per week.  I am here to tell you there is a better way.

Sure, you’ll burn some calories while you’re running to nowhere on a treadmill, but you won’t make a complete physique transformation with this type of exercise alone.

In fact, this type of exercise can actually be counterproductive to burning fat.  Here are just a couple of reasons:

Long duration, lower intensity aerobics calls upon your stored body fat for energy during the sessions.  While this may sound good, this can actually cause your body to create more body fat in reserve after the workout is over to have ready for your next workout.  Yikes!

What’s worse, this type of exercise when done frequently as typically suggested, trains your cardiovascular system to be efficient.  Again, while this sounds good, your heart and lungs can actually reduce their capacity for work as they are getting more efficient at doing easy work (your long duration, low intensity aerobic workouts), which reduces their ability to handle stress.

This can lead to a host of other problems including higher change of heart attack.  You are only working within your current aerobic capacity because you’re never challenging it to go beyond what it’s capable of.   And anything that is easy will not yield results even close to what’s challenging for the body to accomplish.

Instead, you should be challenging the body to increase its capacity, so that it is stronger and able to deal with stress more easily.  How is this done?

The fastest and most efficient way to rev up your metabolism, burn fat faster, and develop lifelong health and fitness is to add lean muscle to your body through resistance training – period. You want life changing results in the quickest possible time? Get stronger and build some muscle. When you add lean muscle to your body you’ll be literally turning your body into a fat burning machine!

Let’s say that you were eating the amount of calories that allow you to maintain your current bodyweight, but began to add lean muscle to your body through proper resistance training…you’ll need to use some of those calories you’re eating to feed the new muscle, creating a calorie deficit in your body.

In addition, when you stimulate your body with proper resistance training like I teach my students, the repair and growth process will call upon your stored body fat for energy.  This calorie deficit combined with the repair and growth process will allow you to burn fat all day long, every day.  You’ll even get these fat burning effects when you’re sitting around doing nothing at all.

Also, properly conducted resistance training actually increases your heart and lung’s capacity for work.  By placing intense demands on your body, it is forced into being ready for anything you throw at it.  This makes you more resistant to cardiovascular health problems that plague most people…even those that exercise with aerobics frequently.

And the beauty is I’ve discovered that you don’t have to spend much time working out to get the fat loss effects, and strength and muscle gains that will create this environment…you can actually get it done with 2 or 3 weekly workouts that last between 20 and 30 minutes, and even less time at an advanced level.

And it’s easy to make this type of exercise part of your life because of its efficiency…and it will help keep you lean and healthy for the rest of it…muscle is the stuff that fat burning furnaces are made of!  That I can promise you.
